We headed out of Airlie & on our way to Cairns. We went to Townsville for our first stop & had a little trouble finding accom as there are festivals, race's & rodeo's on in this part of the country at the moment. We managed to find a place on a busy road again... for the "over 50's" apparently. We were asked to make sure we took the kids to the loo as "some of them aren't used to kids being around"... what the... oh well, it wasn't mentioned to us that we couldn't have the kids & we were only there 1 night too.
We went for a quick drive to The Strand before the sun set & there was another lagoon to swim in cause the water there isn't safe either. We went for a walk, the kids played inthe park & made some noise so they'd be quiet when we got back & then headed back to the van park which I skillfully managed to navigate us back to in the dark.
We were up early the next morning, packed up & went to start the car & it was dead as. Someone forgot to unplug the fridge in the car so it was on all night. Lucky the handyman from the park came to the rescue but it seem's we've zapped the radio in the van.....
Off from Townsville heading for Kurramine Beach. This was a pretty place but expensive to stay in. We had lunch at the pub looking out to the Barrier Reef & met a local guy who suggested another place right on the beach which was cheap. We went there & there was nothing plus it was small the caretaker there suggested we head for Cowley Beach. This was another paradise so we stayed there 2 nights. Right on the beach, clean loo's loverly people again & we were set. We spent the next day on the beach fishing which resulted in again nothing much to write home about but I managed to catch something edible......
After leaving Cowley Beach we were off to Cairns......
